Jadran, which convincingly won the Montenegrin Cup in mid-October, was a firm favorite today. The Montenegrin champion was almost complete. The first goalkeeper Petar Tesanovic missed the match. The visitors led only in the opening minutes (1:0, 2:1). Then Budva took control and earned a 5:3 by the middle break. Jadran equalized twice in the third quarter (5:5, 6:6), but Budva regained a 2-goal lead in the last 81 seconds of the third period.
The fourth quarter was a new part of the big thriller. Jadran leveled the score (8:8), three minutes before the end. The visitors had a few nice chances to earn a lead, but they weren’t successful. Budva had the last possession in the match. Twelve seconds before the end, Jadran’s goalkeeper Darko Djurovic saved a shot from Kovacevic, but Budva earned a corner shot and a new chance to take all three points. Budva’s Blazo Mitrovic beat the buzzer. He found the net with three seconds to go for the final score – 9:8.
Jadran suffered the first loss in the domestic competition after more than four years. The Herceg Novi-based club wasn’t defeated in the Montenegrin competitions from April 2015 to today. Five years ago, Budva beat Jadran in the league match.
The league will be held in a quadruple round-robin format (12 rounds). After the regular season, the playoffs will be played. All four teams will take part in the playoffs.
Five matches will be held until the end of this week.
