The Dutch league is getting off to a screeching start due to corona. Every weekend it is a lottery which match can go on. There were five cancellations this weekend. However, the top teams did come into action and they were not surprised.
In the men’s league, some teams had two games. This also applied to leader AZC. The team from Alphen aan den Rijn strengthened its leading position by taking six points. On Saturday, Tim van Gulik’s team defeated PSV (4-17) and a day later they beat BZC (14-19). Jesse Nispeling excelled. He scored eight times. Runner-up ZV De Zaan also took the full loot. On Saturday De Ham was defeated in the regional derby by 14-9 and on Sunday Andreas Miralis’ team beat ZPB: 16-10.
Het Ravijn also won twice. On Saturday, ZPC Amersfoort had nothing to say against the team from Nijverdal: 11-7. On Sunday, Het Ravijn had a much harder time against ZVL-1886 (which defeated ZBP on Saturday with 9-7). In the third period, the visitors from Leiden turned an 8-6 deficit into an 8-10 lead, but in the final phase the home team still took the game. Bas ter Brake scored the winning 14-13. It was his seventh goal of the evening.Â
UZSC only came into action once: on Sunday against PSV. In Eindhoven it became 6-9 for Mike van den Brink’s team. The low-ranking PSV gave the number five from Utrecht good resistance. Only in the first period UZSC prevailed. It was enough for the win.
Women
Leader ZV De Zaan had a tough job on Het Ravijn on Saturday. In the last period, the visitors from Nijverdal came dangerously close, but De Zaan was just on the right side of the score with 9-8. In the first three periods De Zaan took a comfortable lead (9-5). In the last period Het Ravijn scored three more times, but just came up short for a surprising division of points.
Number 2 UZSC had less trouble with her opponent on Saturday. In Utrecht, Joachim de Ruijsscher’s team defeated PSV with 15-5. On Sunday UZSC received Polar Bears. UZSC won with 9-6 and are now six points ahead of the team from Ede, which had won remarkably well against GZC Donk on Saturday (17-8). ZVL-1886 won convincingly against De Ham 6-16.
