One of World water polo’s smiliest coaches, Marton Benczur is the head coach of UVSE – one of Hungary’s most successful clubs in recent years. With over twenty years of coaching experience, Benczur was assistant coach to Bertalan Ats at UVSE for three years, before taking over the role of head coach in 2016.Â
As UVSE’s head coach, the 41-year-old has won five major titles, winning the Hungarian Championship in 2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2020/2021 and winning the Hungarian Cup in 2018 and 2019. Benczur also led his side to a Bronze medal in the 2020/2021 Euro League.Â
Away from his club commitments, Marton is the head coach of Hungary’s U17 women’s national team, recently winning a Bronze medal in Sibenik in the Junior European Championships.Â
Marton Benczur’s Top 5 of 2021
1. Maddie Musselman (USA)
US National Player | Clubs: UCLA | Position: Left Driver
Hard to choose from the magnificent team from the US, but my choice Maddie. Five goals in the semifinal and three in the final of Tokyo games! She is one of the best shooters in the world, as well as a strong performer in all aspects of the game.2.Rita Keszthelyi (HUN)
Hungarian National Player | Clubs: UVSE | Position: Left Driver
She had a highlight of her career with an Olympic bronze medal and also had a key role in Hungary's victory. She was the team's captain and led her country to their first ever Olympic medal.3. Judith Forca (ESP)
Spanish National Player | Club: CN Sabadell | Position: Right Driver
It's difficult to pick just one player from the many outstanding members of the Spanish national team, but Judith Forca gets my vote this time. She also had a fantastic season with both her club and the national squad. Her shots and game knowledge earned her a spot on my list.4. Alda Magyari (HUN)
Hungarian National Player | Club: Dunajvaros | Position: Goalkeeper
In the previous year, she was a rising star. She assisted her club in reaching the Euroleague final and played a key role in Hungary's Olympic podium run.5. Simone van de Kraats (NED)
Dutch National Player | Clubs: Polar Bears / CN Mataro | Position: Right Driver
She is only 21 but already one of the best lefties in the world. She has a huge role for the Netherlands Olympic Qualification and she was the top goalscorer of the Games with 28 goals and great 62% efficiency.Vote for your Total Player 2021 now!
