Hungary will be represented by twelve reigning world champions at the upcoming World Championships in Doha.
Head coach Zsolt Varga announced the 15-player roster this evening. The list of the players for the tournament includes the 12 gold medalists from Fukuoka last year, along with newcomers Mark Banyai, Peter Kovacs, and David Tatrai.
Banyai (Szolnok), Kovacs, and Tatrai (both BVSC), who played well at the European Championships earlier this month, will make their debut at the World Championships. They replace Marton Levai, Vendel Vigvari, and Erik Molnar, who were part of the team that clinched gold in Fukuoka but did not make the cut this time.
Seven players set to participate in the World Championships previously played for a rejuvenated Hungarian team in Zagreb, where they won 4th place, which was a nice surprise for many. These players include Banyai, Kovacs, and Tatrai, as well as Gergo Fekete, Adam Nagy, Zoltan Pohl, and Vince Vigvari.
The most experienced on the team is, of course, Denes Varga (36), who will make his 10th appearance at the World Championships. He has won two gold medals.
