The newly appointed coaches of the Hungarian women’s national team, Attila Mihok and SΓ‘ndor Cseh, have revealed a chunky list of 28 players invited to the national team’s first training camp on September 25th and 26th.
The training camp, which will essentially serve as a trial for a much-reduced national team squad, takes place after the first round of the Women’s Champions League. It will be the first official session for the new head coaches since their appointment last month.
DunaΓΊjvΓ‘ros Head Coach, Attila Mihok, explained the reasoning behind inviting such a large group, saying, “We want to see as many players as possible and observe their performance in match situations. To achieve this, we’re forming two teams with two lines each, which is why we’ve extended invitations to this many players. We’ve included members of last year’s Universiade team and those who have been part of the broader senior squad over the past one or two years.”
However, the potential members of the U20 team, fresh from their recent world championship victory last Friday, are not being pressured by the coaches at this time. Rest and recovery are essential for them at this point.
“We’ll allow them to rest for now. While we’re in discussions with Marton Benczur, the U20 national team coach, it’s likely that three or four girls will have the opportunity to prove themselves here,” added Mihok. “We always emphasise that the junior and senior levels are quite distinct, but that doesn’t mean that those who can match the seniors’ level at this age won’t get their chance. There will be plenty of matches in the coming months for everyone to showcase their place in the team.”
Co-coach SΓ‘ndor Cseh noted that the ladies will not convene on Margaret Island, as is normally the case. “We’re planning the training camp in a countryside location to minimise distractions and allow the players to focus on dryland training, discussions, and extensive video analysis.”
The women’s Hungarian League season begins on the 4th of October.
