Brescia hosted newcomer Catania. The first period belonged to the reigning champion (3:1). Catania’s Kacar found the net in the 9th minute for 2:3. However, Brescia answered with a 6:0 series and earned a big 9:2 lead before the middle break.
Savona, the third-placed team in the previous season, needed some time to break Roma’s resistance. Savona had a slim lead after the first period (2:1). Roma took control in the second period. In the 15th minute, the hosts went in front (5:4). But, it turned out that it was Roma’s last goal in the match. Savona produced a 6:0 rush for a 10:5 victory.
Both teams had ups and downs in an encounter between Iren and Trieste. Host Iren started better and built a 4:1 lead. But, Trieste scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter and equalized (4:4). The third period was balanced (2:2). Both defenses worked well in the first five and a half minutes of the fourth period. Then, Trieste scored two goals in just 28 seconds for 8:6. Immediately after, Iren responded (7:8), but there were no goals in the last minute and a half, so Trieste opened the season with an away win.
One goal separated the rivals after the end of the game Salerno-Posillipo, played in Salerno. Posillipo entered the fourth period leading 8:6. The hosts scored three goals in the first three minutes of the fourth period and went ahead (9:8). Posillipo equalized twice after that (9:9, 10:10). Still, Salerno took all three points. The hosts forced a penalty just five seconds from time. Elez made no mistake from the 5m line and gave Salerno an 11:10 victory.
The games Ortigia – Anzio and Telimar Metanopoli have been postponed, because Ortigia and Telimar have started in the LEN Euro Cup this weekend.
