Australia will present itself at the World Men’s Championships in Doha with almost the same team as the 2023 World Championships.
Two players will make their debut for Australia at a major competition. Interestingly, neither of them was born in Australia. Both are naturalized players.
The debutants are Jacop Mercep, a naturalized Croat, and Milos Maksimovic, a naturalized Serb. Both played for their countries’ junior national teams.
Mercep will play against his former teammates in his first official match for Australia. “The Sharks “first rival in Doha is Croatia, and a few of the Croatian players were Mercep’s teammates in the junior and youth national teams.
Mercep, who played in the NCAA League in the USA and the Australian League in the past several years, will return to his hometown after the World Championships and will join Jug Dubrovnik.
