The action continued in the Croatian capital as the U15 European Championships resumed for day 2.
Europe’s ‘big four’ women’s water polo nations remain undefeated after two games. Hungary followed up their demolition of Serbia yesterday with a 17-9 win over the hosts Croatia, with the Magyar’s captain, Kincso Kenez contributing six scores.
Italy, Greece and Spain (Spain in consecutive games), put 20+ goals past their respective opponents Serbia, Israel and the Netherlands. All of Italy’s outfield players registered at least one goal on the scoresheet, while five Greeks (Bikou, Koundouraki, Karagianni, Krassa and Chelmi) tallied four goals.
In the ‘lower’ tier, Romania edged out Czechia 9-7 in an exciting contest to win their second game in Zagreb and top Group C, while Germany keep their 100% record in Group with a 17-8 win over Slovakia; five German goals came from the 5m line.
The most exciting spectacle of the day came from Group C, with the Republic of Ireland defeating Ukraine with a last gasp goal (00:01) from Laura Casserly – who netted an eye-opening eight goals throughout the whole game.
Tomorrow promises excitement as the undefeated teams in Group A and Group B go head-to-head (Italy vs Hungary and Spain vs Greece). The hosts, Croatia, will look for their first win against fierce rivals Serbia.
