There were two classification matches for the teams contesting 9th-12th this morning on the last day of action at the U19 European Championships in Netanya, Israel.
Serbia beat Ukraine in the first game of the day to finish 9th, while Portugal smashed Switzerland in the battle for eleventh.
Serbia outmatched Ukraine despite trailing by two goals in the first quarter. Goals from Kateryna Babak and Daria Rumiantseva gave the Ukrainians a perfect start in the game, but a brace from Ana Milicevic (extra-player goal and 5m penalty) in the second quarter put Serbia into the ascendency.
The game belonged to Serbia after the third, with three goals from Tijana Lukic securing the result, and a ninth place finish in Netanya.
In the lowest ranking game of the day, Portugal became the fourth side to win by a 15-goal margin against Switzerland – who in truth only finished in the top 12 due to Germany’s COVID withdrawal.
There were quite remarkable scenes when Madalena Lousa hit double figures in the match – with her ten goals today taking her entire tournament keep to a very respectable 27 scores.
Alice Rodrigues (5) and Carolina Fernandes (4) were both also amongst the goals.
