Barceloneta has started its activities in the transfer market. The Spanish champion hasn’t signed any new players yet, but it completed a very important job.
Today, Barceloneta renewed the contract with one of the best goalkeepers in the world Unai Aguirre.
Aguirre (20) arrived at Barceloneta from Barcelona two years ago. In his first season, he shared the minutes with an experienced Dani Lopez in his first season.
After Lopez’s retirement, Aguire became the central pillar of Barceloneta’s defense. Since 2021, he has been Spain’s first goalkeeper. Aguirre was one of the key players in Spain’s excellent water polo summer of 2022. The Spaniards won gold at the World Championships and bronze medals in the World League and the European Championships. He won 4th place at the Tokyo Olympics. Last year, Aguirre won 10th place in the voting for the Total Player Award.
Aguirre signed a 3-year contract with Barceloneta – until 2026.
“My goal is to become the European champion with this club”, Aguirre said in a short statement for Barceloneta’s social media.
His goal and dream may come true very soon. Barceloneta will probably finish 1st in the Champions League Group A and will have an easier opponent than the other favorites in the quarterfinals of the Final Eight in Belgrade.
