The big match of Day 20 of the Hungarian League was a clash between the former and the current European champions. However, the match quickly became one-sided. Ferencvaros, the reigning European and Hungarian champion, maintained their dominance in domestic competitions by defeating Szolnok 16:7.
Spaniard Miguel de Toro gave Ferencvaros an opening 1:0 lead in the match in Szolnok. The hosts leveled in the 5th minute. However, that was their first and last goal in the first half. Ferencvaros kept Szolnok goalless for 15 minutes. The visitors netted eight goals in that interval. In the middle of the third period, βFradiβ led 9:1 and killed all the suspense. The visitors had a 12:2 advantage after 24 minutes and slowed in the final quarter. Eight players from Ferencvaros got on the scoresheet, with Dusan Mandic and Vendel Vigvari topped the list with three goals each. Following another impressive display by the European champions and the win against the 2nd-placed team in the Hungarian League, one question lingers: βCan anybody beat Ferencvaros this season?β
Before the game against Ferencvaros, Szolnok was alone in 2nd place. Now, it shares 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places with Vasas and OSC, who both recorded wins and caught up with Szolnok in the standings.
Miskolc, which upset BVSC a few days ago, was unable to replicate that success in their match against Vasas in Budapest. The hosts won by seven goals (16:9). Miskolc managed to stay competitive in the first half, trailing by just one goal at 6:7 at the end of the second quarter, but they ran out of energy for the rest of the match. Montenegrin player Bogdan Djurdjic led Vasasβ attack with five goals.
OSC defeated Eger 16:11. The Budapest-based team made a crucial difference in the first half. OSC had a 7:2 advantage after 11 minutes of play. The hosts held back all Egerβs comeback attempts. The visitors narrowed the gap to two in the third quarter (7:9). Still, OSC responded with two goals to enter the final quarter leading 11:9. Lars ten Broek and Krisztof Varnai contributed to OSCβs victory with three goals.
BVSC achieved a 20:11 victory over Kaposvar, although the hosts put up a strong fight in the first 16 minutes. After a balanced first half, which ended in a 7:7 tie, BVSC dominated the third and fourth quarters. David Tatrai scored five goals for the visitors.
