Swimming World reported that Davis’ appointment was approved at a USAWP board meeting last Friday. The 58-year-old will replace the retiring Chris Ramsey, who has held the position for over 18 years.
Davis is expected to transition from USA Volleyball (USAV), where he has served as CEO for seven years, to USA Water Polo after the Paris Olympic and Paralympic games.
USAWP has yet to comment on the rumored appointment.
Although Davis has no prior experience in water polo, he boasts a highly successful career in sports promotion and marketing, with previous roles at NBC Sports, Fox Sports, ESPN, and Fanatics, the world’s largest online retailer of licensed sports merchandise.
During Davis’ tenure at USAV, the federation’s membership grew by nearly 30%, reaching 425,000. Additionally, the American national volleyball team secured three gold medals at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. Perhaps most crucially, the organization is currently enjoying a period of financial prosperity and stability.
Other candidates considered for the role included USA Women’s National Team Head Coach Adam Krikorian, USAWP’s Chief High Performance Officer John Abdou, and former Cal Bear turned tech entrepreneur Rob Solomon.
