Due to all the corona and OQT delays, the men in the Dutch Eredivisie had to play a “double” once more. They played on Saturday and Sunday. The weekend’s major winner is UZSC. Roeland Spijker’s team is now the only undefeated team in the Eredivisie after two new victories. GZC Donk had a dramatic weekend, losing both games.
First, GZC Donk lost to ZPC Amersfoort on Saturday. The team from Amersfoort got off to a great start. It was already 6:2 after the first half, and ZPC Amersfoort was able to close out the match with a final score of 15:13. GZC Donk got the short end of the stick again the next day. Then, with a score of 10:7, UZSC proved to be too solid. UZSC had already won on Saturday (8:16 against ZPB), rendering the Utrecht squad the only undefeated team in the Eredivisie.
Until Sunday, ZV De Zaan had the same status. On Saturday, Johan Aantjes’ team defeated Het Ravijn, but on Sunday, it shared the points with AZC (9:9). It was the weekend’s top match. After Angelo Corver’s 9:8 in the final period, the home team seemed to be headed for victory, but AZC’s David Gyorgy tied the game six seconds before the end.Â
On Sunday, two other games were also decided in the dying seconds. Three seconds before the final whistle, BZC’s Mika Smelt netted against ZVL-1886 (which narrowly defeated PSV on Saturday). With this win, the team from Borculo secured a spot in the sub-top. The match in Wormerveer was also determined in the final phase. The Hague could smell their first victory of the season for a long time. However, that honor fell to De Ham, who turned a 3:6 deficit into an 11:10 victory in the second half. The winning goal was scored by Tom Geestman.
Polar Bears was left with four points this weekend. On Saturday, the team defeated De Ham, and on Sunday, it was held at 11:11 against ZPC Amersfoort. In the third and fourth periods, Amersfoort surrendered a 4:7 lead. After goals from Kas te Riele, Tom de Weerd, and Lars ten Broek in the final period, the home team thought it would win, but the points were shared thanks to goals from Amersfoort-players Mees Keuning and Max van der Werve at the end.
