BVSC and Vasas earned points in two Budapest derbies in the 22nd round of the Hungarian League. After these matches, five teams are still in contention for the playoff semifinals.
Vasas beat Honved 11:7. Following this loss, Honved has no chance of reaching the playoffs.
The standout performance of the day came from BVSC. The club coached by Daniel Varga dominated OSC Budapest, which Varga previously managed. OSC was limited to three goals, resulting in an 8:3 victory for BVSC.
BVSC is currently three points behind the teams ranked second to fourth: Vasas, Szolnok, and OSC, but Vasas has played one match fewer than the others.
BVSC, which beat Szolnok 11:5 last week, confirmed its excellent form with a dominant performance against OSC. BVSCβs strong defense played a pivotal role. OSC took an early lead at 1:0 in the 3rd minute, but BVSC responded by not allowing any further goals for over 11 minutes while scoring five, achieving a crucial 5:1 lead. The hosts controlled the game for the remainder of the match, with Akos Konarik as the top scorer, netting three goals.
The encounter between Honved and Ferencvaros remained close for more than two quarters. Vasas led 5:4 at halftime, and Honved managed to level the score at 5:5 in the 18th minute. However, after that, the team in white caps struggled to find the net for over eleven minutes, while Vasas produced a decisive 3:0 run to pull ahead 8:5. Honved could not recover from this deficit. Bogdan Djurdjic contributed to Vasasβs 11:7 victory with three goals. Sebastian Hessels scored three for Honved, which is now 10 points behind 5th-placed BVSC.
After the defeat to BVSC, Szolnok got back on track with a comfortable 14:6 win over Debrecen.
Ferencvaros easily defeated Miskolc (18:6), with Stylianos Argyropoulos scoring five goals.
Two matches were decided in penalty shootouts.
Kaposvar triumphed over UVSE 20:19. UVSE had the lead at 14:12 in the 32nd minute but was unable to hold on, as Kaposvar equalized with two goals in the final 52 seconds and ultimately claimed victory in the shootout.
The matchup between Eger and Szentes followed a similar pattern. Eger was ahead at 13:12 but lost two points in the dying moments when Szentes equalized with just 12 seconds left on the clock. Szentes was better in the penalty shootout, winning 17:15.
