Vasas downs Honved in derby; easy wins for top three teams

Vasas defeated Honved convincingly (12:8) in the big game of the 21st round of the Hungarian League.

The top three teams – Szolnok, OSC, and Ferencvaros – beat their rivals with ease.

The other four encounters were more thrilling.

Vince Vigvari (UVSE) was excellent today. He scored seven goals and led UVSE to a 9:7 win over PVSK Pecs.

2020/21 Hungarian League, Day 21

Vasas – Honved 12:8 (2:0, 3:2, 4:3, 3:3)

Vasas took a flying start in the match against Honved. The hosts jumped to a 3:0 lead. The hosts kept Honved goalless until the 12th minute when Kevi scored for 1:3. Vasas regained a 3-goal lead by the middle break (5:2). The home side opened the third period with two goals, and they went up 7:2. After that, Honved couldn’t come back.

Szolnok ran over Tatabanya. OSC Budapest blew away Debrecen.

In the match with Miskolc, Ferencaros had some ups and downs, but the title-holder’s win was not in danger. After the first quarter, Ferencvaros had a lead of 7:4 and raised the margin to four (8:4) immediately after the first break. Miskolc began to climb back and halved the gap (7:9) in the 15th minute. Ferencvaros replied with the 6:0 series. Early in the fourth quarter, the hosts had an 8-goal advantage (15:7), and everything was decided.

The match between PVSK and UVSE was a close contest. Most of the time, UVSE was in front, but the hosts kept close to the Budapest-based team. PVSK leveled the score for the last time – 6:6 – in the 29th minute. Then, Vince Vigvari scored three goals in two minutes, giving UVSE a 9:6 lead. PVSK managed to score a consolation goal in the remaining 39 seconds. Vigvari, who still hasn’t turned 18, found the net seven times this evening. He shares 1st place on the list of the best scorer with Marton Magyar (Miskolc). Each has scored 60 goals so far.

Szeged played its first match in the recently opened pool Tiszavirag. But, the debut in the new sports center wasn’t good. BVSC defeated Szeged 8:5. At halftime, the score was 4:4. BVSC opened the second half with three consecutive goals for 7:4 and that proved vital for the visitors’ win.

Eger defeated Szentes in a low-scoring game. Just five goals were scored in the first 24 minutes. In the middle of the third period, the rivals were tied (2:2). After that, Eger produced a 3:0 series, earned a 5:2 lead with 03:05 minutes to go, and secured the victory.

Kaposvar led throughout the match against KSI, and built a 5-goal lead in the 21st minute (10:5). But, the visitors couldn’t find the net in the last 11 minutes. Kaposvar reduced the gap (9:10), but it didn’t equalize, Kaposvar saved the win.
