Vouliagmeni reclaims home field advantage; Olympiacos in final

Olympiacos is the first finalist of the playoffs in the Greek League.

The “Red Whites” beat Panionios twice in the semifinals,  and they will wait for a while to find out their opponent in the final.

Vouliagmeni regained a home-field advantage by beating the LEN Challenger Cup winner Apollon in an away game. The third match, in Vouliagmeni’s pool, will decide which team will face Olympiacos in the series for the title.

2022/23 Greek League, playoffs, semifinals (best of three)

Match 2

Apollon Smyrnis – Vouliagmeni 13:16 (4:6, 3:3, 3:4, 3:3) – score in the series 1:1
Apollon Smyrnis: Solanakis 5, Bogdanovic 2, Mokkas 2, Diplaros 2, Alamanos 1, Gardikas 1.
Vouliagmeni: Chalyvopoulos 4, Alafragkis 3, Kalogeropoulos 2, Papasifakis 2, Troulos 1, Nikolaidis 1, Kapotsis 1, Kourouvanis 1, Almyras 1.

Panionios – Olympiacos 7:11 (2:1, 1:3, 2:3, 2:4) – score in the series 0:2
Panionios: Gounas 3, Kopeliadis 1, Gkiouvetsis 1, Bitadze 1, Mouratidis 1.
Olympiacos: Vamos 3, Fountoulis 3, Mourikis 1, Grammatikos 1, Papanastasiou 1.

Apollon surprised Vouliagmeni in the first match (9:8), but it didn’t upgrade that win in front of its fans. Vouliagmeni led throgout te match. In the second quarter, the visitors built a 3-goal lead. Apollon leveled at 9:9 in the third period. However, Vouliagmeni controlled the match. It regained a 3-goal advantage before the final quarter (13:10) and maintained the difference until the end.

Olympiacos started slowly and let Panionios take a 2:0 lead. Fountoulis put the visitors on the scoreboard in the 7th minute. By the middle of the second quarter, Olympiacos went in front (3:2). Still, Panionios kept up with the favorite and leveled at 3:3, 5:5 and 7:7. Olympiacos scored the last four goals in the match and secured a 11:7 victory.

Match 2

Panathinaikos – Peristeri 6:8 (1:3, 2:1, 2:2, 1:2) – score in the series 0:2
Panathinaikos: Ch. Siamas 3, Dermitzakis 2, Adzic 1.
Peristeri: Foskolos 3, Chr.Bitsakos 1, Kazazis 1, Prekas 1,Karuntzos 1, Chrysospathis 1.

Match 3

PAOK – Ethnikos 17:12 (3:2, 4:2, 4:2, 6:6) – score in the series 2:1
PAOK: Koopman 5, Kechalaris 3, Milardovics 2, Saleh 2, Kapragos 2, Laskaridis 2, P.Prosinikis 1,
Ethnikos: Tesanovic 3, Mathiopoulos 3, Valliaanatos 3, Theodosis – Papaloukas 2,Beristianos 1.

Peristeri and PAOK will battle for 5th place.
