Vouliagmeni win the women’s SEDY Cup

October 2, 2022

Vouliagmeni have won the seventh edition of the women’s SEDY Cup after defeating Glyfada in the last game of the tournament 10-8.

Kiki Liosi will be satisfied with the performance of her team over the weekend, as they played five games and won all five of them. She will also be pleased that her team defeated last year’s runner-up in the league, Glyfada, whom Vouliagmeni will face on the opening day of the season next weekend.

In what was essentially a tournament deciding game this evening, Vouliagmeni trailed 4-2 in the second quarter and had to come from behind to win. Four goals in response, three of which were scored by Eleni Elliniadi, gave the Nautical Club the lead, and turned the tide of the game.

In the final quarter, Glyfada made a strong push, but Vouliagmeni was prepared for all of the challenges they encountered and had an answer for each one.

An exciting 10-10 draw was played out between the newly promoted Alimos and Glyfada in the day’s other action. The game was exciting all the way through, and Alimos may have thought they deserved to win after taking a lead of 9-7 heading into the final quarter of play. While the end result may not matter much, Alimos’ strong showing in this tournament proves that the investment in the club, and bringing in some top players, has paid off. They will have no trouble remaining in the division for next season, and may even be within touching distance of being able to challenge for a top-four finish.

Patra defeated Peristeri for their first victory of the tournament thanks to eight goals from Dionysia Koureta, but they fell short against Panionios, 12-8.

Alimos’ second game of the day resulted in a 17-7 victory over Peristeri, with Alexandra Asimaki’s six goals demonstrating her dominance, as she has in countless games over the years.

Eleni Elliniadi propelled Vouliagmeni past Panionios in their first matchup of the day. She finished the game with five goals.
