Waspo 98 Hannover defended the trophy in the German Cup. The team from Hannover defeated Spandau easier than expected in the final of the 2022 national Cup in Duisburg – 17:9.
Today’s triumph is the seventh German Cup for Hannover in total and the fifth in the past six seasons. Spandau won the 2020 German Cup.

The first quarter set the tone of the match. Hannover’s defense, commanded by Moritz Schenkel was superb in the opening minutes, and the offense worked very well. In the 6th minute, Hannover led 4:0. Spandau got on the scoreboard a minute and a half before the first break.
Spandau started climbing back. It opened the second period with two goals and reduced the gap to one (3:4). But, Hannover responded with four straight goals and built an 8:3 advantage.
Spandau couldn’t recover from the second 0:4 series. Waspo dictated the pace. In the fourth quarter, Hannover stretched the margin to nine (15:6). Spandau didn’t surrender, but it couldn’t avoid a big defeat.
