A day before the end of the FINA World Masters Water Polo Championships in Gwangju, the competition in four categories is completed.
New world champions are Politehnica, Romania (men 30+), The Olympic Club, USA (men 35+/40+), Saint Petersburg Masters, Russia (men 50+) and San Diego Shores, USA (women).
Dubrovacki Veterani (Croatia) secured the gold medal in the men’s age group 45+, which will be completed tomorrow.
Two gold medal matches were played today.
Saint Petersburg Masters defeated The Olympic Club (USA) 7:4 in the final of the men’s 50+ competition.
In the gold medal match at the female tournament, San Diego Shores (USA) faced Rari Nantes Bologna 30+ (Italy). After the 4th quarter, the score was 7:7, so the penalty shootout decided a winner. San Diego Shores were successful in the shootout and celebrated a 13:12 win.
Dubrovacki Veterani won the gold medal at the tournament for men older than 45 years. Today, the Croats shared the points with the outgoing champion in this category YBL-Octopus (Hungary) – 7:7. In the last round, Dubrovacki Veterani was supposed to play against the last-placed BT Guam (USA). But, the Americans surrendered without entering the pool. They forfeited the match (0:5). The Dubrovnik-based club took 3 points and secured the 1st place.
