The Group Stage at the Pan American Games in Lima was completed on Thursday
The most important match of Day 3 was an encounter between Brazil and Argentina which decided who would take the 1st place in Group B of the men’s tournament. The Brazilians beat the neighbors 12:7 to finish a group play at 3-0, as well as the USA did in the Group A.
The teams of the USA and Canada finished the group stage of the women-s tournament with 6 points each.
There were no surprises on the last day, but the spectators have fun during an encounter between the female teams of the USA and Venezuela, as the Americans’ field players were in the roles of goalkeepers in the second half, while a goalie Ashleigh Johnson played in the attack.
The teams have a day off on Wednesday. The competition will be continued on Thursday, with the quarterfinal matches.

After a hard battle against Canada on Day 2, the USA Team had a very easy task in the last round of the group stage. The Americans scored 24 goals, despite the fact that just five players hit the back of the net in this match. The leading scorers in a 24:1 win over Puerto Rico, with 5 goals each, were Marko Vavic and Hannes Daube. Goalkeeper Alex Wolf also played well (10 saves).
Canada controlled Cuba from the beginning of the game. Deep into the third period, the Canadians went 5:1 up. From that point on, the difference between the two sides was never smaller than four goals. By the end, the Canadians doubled an advantage (18:10).

Brazil ruled the field in the opening match of the group derby with Argentina. The Brazilians rushed to a 7:0 lead by the middle of the second period, and Argentina couldn’t recover from that shock. Brazil, led by Gustavo Guimaraes (4 goals), entered the last quarter with a 10:3 and slowed down in the last eight minutes.
As expected, Mexico clinched third place in the group. The Mexicans earned a safe 7:1 lead in the first half. Early in the third period, they added two goals for 9:1 and they couldn’t play relaxed in the last 10-12 minutes.

World champion the USA Team showed no mercy to Venezuela. The Americans earned an 18:0 lead before Venezuela scored its first goal three minutes before the last break.
USA head coach Adam Krikorian used this match to experiment. A goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson got a chance to play in the field in the second half. In the third quarter, she was replaced by attacker Rachel Fattal, while defender Melissa Seidemann was the goalie in the last quarter. Johnson scored one goal. She netted from a center shot for 22:2, just three minutes after she hit the post from a penalty.
Brazil secured the 2nd place in the group by defeating Puerto Rico. Brazil was leading from the first period. Puerto Rico was climbing back from time to time (2:3, 3:4). The Brazilians jumped to a 9:4 early in the third period, and there was no way back for Puerto Rico.

Canada trashed Mexico 27:5 and finished the group stage with the best goal difference at the tournament – 75:13. The USA women’s Team has 66:10 difference, while the male team of the USA scored 58 and conceded 18 goals.
Cuba, the 15th-placed team, at the World Championships in Gwangju, was too strong for the young home team. The Peruvians scored their first goal deep into the third period (1:12). Cuba extended the margin of its win to 14 (19:5) to confirm the 2nd place in the group.
