There were five games played today in the opening round of the Women’s Spanish League and the top five teams from last season all recored wins.
Sant Andreu were the most prolific, scoring nineteen and conceding none. The floodgates were open for Sabadell and Terrassa, who made short work of Boadilla and Sant Feliu respectively. Mataro beat Barceloneta in the first game of the day, but it was a closer game that many would have expected.
We will have to wait to see Tenerife Echeyde play their first top-flight match. They were due to play CN Catalunya, but the game has been rescheduled for November.
Astralpool Sabadell 27 – 4 CD Boadilla (7-0, 7-4, 5-0, 8-0)
Sabadell: L. Ester, M. Ortiz 1, P. Leiton 2, M. Bonet 2, M. Serrano 1, I. Casado 3, E. Ruiz 3, M. Garcia 4, J. Forca 2, B. Ortiz 4, N. Perez 2, I. Gonzalez 3, M. Carrasco
Boadilla: C. Palacios, A. Hernandez, L. Alvarez 1, L. Calvo, M. Peragon, E. Castellanos, M. De Quinta Ramirez, E. Prieto 1, L. Kocsis 2, C. Hagen Camaron, A. Wu, P. Moreno
Sabadell responded to their Super Cup loss from earlier in the week by dominating Boadilla by a score of 27-4. The Madrid team had no chance of winning the game, trailing 7-0 after the first quarter (Ruiz, Forca, Casdao, Maica 2, Mati Ortiz, and Bonet). The defending champions won the second half by a frightening 13-0 margin. The fixtures don’t look to get easier for Boadilla, with Mataro, Terrassa, and Boadilla their next three contests.
CN Terrassa 23 – 8 CN Sant Feliu (4-3, 6-0, 7-3, 6-2)
Terrassa: S. Domene, L. Ferrer 1, K. Paul 2, N. Cuenda 2, C. Cantero 2, D. Quinzada, N. Ten Broek 5, P. Pena 1, D. Menakerman 2, P. Camus 5, A. Finestra, F. Bosveld 3, E. Arcas
Sant Feliu: N. Trojan, J. Soler, M. Bargallo 2, I. Almeda, B. Goset, L. Roca Herrera 3, M. Gomez 1, M. Manchego 1, A. Temprano. J. Panicello 1, L. Hidalgo, J. Figeuroa, P. Carilla
Terrassa may have lost several key players over the summer, but this afternoon they had no trouble asserting themselves against Sant Feliu. Xavi Perez will be especially pleased with the five goals scored by both Paula Camus and Nina Ten Broek; both players will be vital to Terrassa’s success this season.
CN Mataro 15 – 8 CN Atletic Barceloneta (5-3, 3-2, 3-2, 4-1)
Mataro: E. Sanchez, S. Morell, S. Van de Kraats 4, A. Gual, V. Sevenich 2, R. Keszthelyi-Nagy 4, C. Cambray, C. Nogue, S. Avegno 3, Q. Bertran 2, R. Gurri, M. Claveria, E. Herrera
Barceloneta: A. Farre Colomina, P. Rodriguez, N. Martin, C. Buscarons 2, N. Josifovic, J. Cereijo 1, U. Del Sol Agusti, N. Mandic 1, I. Piralkova 1, R. Tarrago, S. Garcia 3, L. Lopez, B. Colominas
Mataro’s league campaign began with a victory, as they defeated Barceloneta relatively easily. It didn’t take long for Rita Keszthelyi-Nagy to score her first Spanish league goal, firing home twenty seconds into the game. Keszthelyi ended the match with four scores, as did Simone Van de Kraats. Silvia Avegno netted three.
CN Sant Andreu 19 – 0 ESC Zaragoza (7-0, 1-0, 6-0, 5-0)
Sant Andreu: A. Antolin, H. Ballesty 2, N. Mora Perez 2, Q. Boixadera 1, G. Colominas 3, H. Ruckelshaus Shabb 3, M. Cordobes, I. Martinez, A. Rego, T. Prentice 3, M. Palacio 1, A. Ruiz 4, M. Terre
Zaragoza: I. Moreno, A. Escolano, M. Herrera, I. Betran, S. Beltran, N. Coloma, Morte, N. Manero, N. Perez, R. Corao, S. Perez, A. Sariena, J. Tazueco, S. Betran
This evening, Sant Andreu completely dominated Zaragoza, preventing them from scoring a single goal. It was a devastating performance by Javi Fernandez’s team, who scored on every opportunity. The majority of goals were scored by Aridana Ruiz (4), Gisel Colominas (3), Hannah Ruckehaus Shabb (3), and Tara Prentice (3), who was making her debut.
It’s a horrible way to start the season for Zaragoza, but Sant Andreu are some way ahead of them in terms of quality. They must respond in their upcoming match against Echeyde.
CN Rubi 6 – 13 CE Mediterrani (3-3, 1-4, 0-4, 2-2)
Rubi: E. Jiminez, N. Montero, C. Penalver, C. Abellan, M. Ungria, A. Rodriguez, L. Rion, C. Moreno 1, R. Prieto 2, J. Prados, E. Vesperinas, A. Trivino, M. Sampaio
Mediterrani: I. Costa, A. Munoz 1, A. Crevier 3, A. Marcos 1, L. Marinach, C. Rodriguez 1, C. Espar 3, P. Prats 2, M. Viladot, H. Dalmases, P. Crespi 2, S. Lizotte, G. Palm
In the last game of the day, Mediterrani had enough quality to overcome CN Rubi. Marian Diaz’s team punished the hosts in the middle sector of the game. Both Clara Espar and new signing Axelle Crevier both converted hat-tricks, supported by braces from the ever improving Paula Prats and Paula Crespi.
