On the eve of the Olympic Qualification Tournament in Rotterdam, the Dutch men club teams played their fourth round in the Cup competition. This tournament is played without national team players, so the best players of the Dutch league do not participate. Nevertheless, they are welcome matches in an otherwise silent water polo year in the Netherlands. For the women, the Eredivisie, the regular league, was resumed. In contrast to the Cup competition, the players from the national team do come into action. That was noticeable. They scored many goals.
Men
In group A, leader AZC did not take action. In the same group, Waterpolo Den Haag is back with both feet on the ground. The newcomer at the highest level surprisingly won his first matches in this Cup competition, but ZPB stopped that winning streak. The team from Barendrecht won 15:10. As a result, ZPB rose one position, The Hague dropped two positions in the ranking and the tension in this group has completely returned. ZV De Zaan defeated SVH with 11:17, mainly thanks to a strong last quarter and is now in the second position in the ranking. Angelo Corver was on fire with six goals. GZC Donk completes the top-3. The team from Gouda defeated BZC 9:12. Halfway the teams were still in the balance, but in the other quarters, GZC Donk was the parent.
In group B, ZPC Amersfoort lashed out against De Ham. Coach Gianluca Sattolo’s team won 9:17. Regional fellow UZSC also won convincingly. The leader in this group did not leave any chips behind of Polar Bears (4:14). The game was actually already played after the first quarter. Where Polar Bears only hit once per quarter, UZSC scored without any effort. Captain Benjamin Hoepelman became the top scorer with three goals. Het Ravijn defeated ZVL-1886 (15:11). As a result, there is a cautious separation in this group between the top three teams and the rest.
Women
So for the ladies a restart of the Eredivisie. The most tension was in the match between ZV De Zaan and GZC Donk. Although the visitors from Gouda were on the right side of the score for a large part of the game, they were unable to shake off ZV De Zaan. The team of Arjan Vos got stuck in the leader, came back to 7:7 (Anouk Bergsma) and even took the lead four minutes before the time due to a goal by Maud Koopman. Moments later Marit van der Weijden brought the score back into balance and in the end it was GZC Donk that won. Viviane Kretzmann Bahia scored the winning goal. It was also exciting in Leiden, where ZVL-1886 and Het Ravijn hardly differed from each other. Het Ravijn won 5:7. Lieke Schokker was the absolute star with five goals. UZSC had no mercy with PSV. It became no less than 29:5 for the team of Joachim de Ruijsscher. National team captain Dagmar Genee showed with six goals that she is back in action. SWOL 1894 is still waiting for its first points. The team from Zwolle suffered its third defeat against De Ham. For De Ham, that meant the first victory. Former international Lizette Rozeboom found the net five times.
