This summer, there were not many “transfer bombs”. Most of the favorites for the trophies in the European competition made small changes to their roster. But, Ferencvaros, Novi Beograd, Olympiacos, Barceloneta, etc, managed to bring in several significant reinforcements.

Head coaches were also in the headlines of the news about transfers. Olympiacos, Novi Beograd, Spandau 04, Vouliagmeni, Tourcoing, and Szolnok are some clubs that will enter the season with new head coaches.

Champions League wild card holders

European champion Pro Recco wasn’t very active in the 2022 transfer market. The best Italian club kept almost all the players from the last season. Newcomers to Recco are two members of the Italian national team that arrived from Savona – Andrea Fondelli (who played for Recco before) and young Matteo Iocchi Gratta.

Novi Beograd, the runner-up in the last season’s Champions League, will enter the new season with a new head coach -Zivko Gocic. The most important reinforcements are world champion Alvaro Granados and Greek Dimitrios Skoumpakis.

Ferencvaros left without an outstanding left-handed goal-getter, Marton Vamos, who Viktor Vadovics have replaced, and the most important addition is Greek ace Stylianos Argyropolus.

Barceloneta’s newcomers are, among the others, returnee Roger Tahull, the center-forward of the Spanish national team, and young Montenegrin Dusan Matkovic.

After winning 2nd place in the Champions League and titles in the Serbian and the Regional League, head coach Igor Milanovic left Novi Beograd. He took over Olympiacos, where he replaced Theodoros Vlachos, who will work only with the national team in the future. Milanovic will count on most of the players who were on Olympiacos’ roster last season and on two excellent newcomers – Marton Vamos and Alexandros Papanastasiou.

Marseille brought Hannes Daube, one of the best Team USA players.

Several experienced players left Jug, and three newcomers arrived.

There were a lot of changes on the rosters of the German clubs with the wild cards – Hannover and Spandau, as well on the roster of Dinamo Tbilisi. Radnicki Kragujevac signed Serbia’s center-forward Nemanja Vico.

The current LEN Euro Cup champion Sabadell, which recently was invited to play in the CHL after Steaua Bucharest returned its wild card, slightly rejuvenated the team.

Italy

Brescia, the semifinalist of the 2021 and 2022 Champions League, renewed the contracts with all key players and signed an excellent left-handed goal-getter Konstantin Kharkov, who debuted for Croatia this year.

There were a lot of arrivals at Savona and departures from the club. Gianmarco Nicosia, the goalkeeper of the Italian national team, and Montenegro’s Bogdan Djurdjic are Savona’s most important additions.
Posillipo, Quinto, and Ortigia didn’t make many changes to their rosters, but they signed experienced players.

Salerno, Anzio Waterpolis and newcomer to the Serie A1 De Akker reshaped their teams. Salerno made a good move by bringing Alberto Barroso, who won bronze medals in the World League and at the European Championships with Spain. He came from Terrassa. One of Salerno’s additions is Zeno Bertoli, who played for Pro Recco in the last season.

France

Many excellent players arrived in France this summer, so a very exciting national league is on the sight.

Tourcoing Lille brought a new head coach Petar Kovacevic and renovated the roster with several experienced and a few young players.

The best scorer of the World Championships, Alex Bowen, will play in France the next season. Bowen signed a contract with Noisy-le-Sec even before the Budapest tournament.

As already mentioned, Bowen’s teammate in Team USA, Hannes Daube, joined Marseille.

Strasbourg signed several high-profile players, too.

Serbia

Several foreign players came to the Serbian clubs in the 2022 transfer window. Novi Beograd isn’t the only club that welcomed players from abroad.

The best-known foreigners who arrived in other Serbian clubs are two center-forwards. Captain of Slovakia Lucas Seman joined Crvena Zvezda. Croat Lovro Paparic is a new player of Partizan.
Vojvodina signed the players from three continents – Mehmet Yutmaz (Turkey), Murat Shakenov (Kazakhstan) and Amos Gold (New Zealand).

Some Serbian players returned to their homeland from foreign clubs

Sabac, which will play in the Champions League qualifications, did some good jobs in the transfer market. A new goalkeeper Stefan Zivojinovic returns to his homeland from France. An experienced Dusan Vasic (who plays for Georgia now) also came back to Serbia – to Crvena Zvezda. Petar Kasum, the former player of Partizan and Crvena Zvezda, joined Vojvodina.

Eleven players departed from Partizan, which has negotiated with several foreigners. To date, there haven’t been the club’s announcements about reinforcements (Paparic confirmed the arrival by himself). Several young players from Partizan’s school will join the first team.

Petar Muslim, the 2012 Olympic champion with Croatia, came back to Primorje. Along with Muslim, Montenegrin Darko Brguljan arrived atPrimorje from Hannover. Three players came to Mladost from Dinamo Tbilisi.

Jadran Split, the Croatian Cup winner, left without Konstantin Kharkov. His replacement is Ivan Domagoj Zovic, who returns to Split from Szolnok.

Greece

Almost all Greek clubs were very busy during the transfer window.

Igor Milanovic isn’t the only great Serbian coach and former player who arrived in Greece. Vladimir Vujasinovic will guide Vouliagmeni. A few experienced players left Vouliahmeni, but the club welcomed several excellent newcomers or returnees. Among them are center-forward Dimitrios Nikolaidis, who returned from Spandau 04, and two Team USA’s players – Matt Farmer and Dylan Woodhead.

Panionios has been reinforced by experienced players – Konstantinos Gkiuovetsis, Alexandros Gounas and Andria Bitadze.

Apollon Smyrnis has several new players, including the best scorer of the 2021/22 Serbian League Nikola Bogdanovic.

Ydriakos, which will play in the LEN Euro Cup, has a new coach Nikos Karamanis, who guided Nireas Chalandriou from the second to the first Greek League. Along with Karamanis, a lot of young players moved from Nireas Chalandriou to Ydraikos.
