The surprise of the week in the European water polo happened in Germany. Title-holder Waspo 98 Hannover suffered a home loss to ASC Duisburg (7:9). For the first time after 2016, ASC earned the points in Hannover. In the meantime, Waspo recorded 29 victories over the team from Duisburg.

Hrvoje Benic gave Hannover a 1:0 lead after less than 30 seconds of play, and everything seemed to go as expected. But, ASC earned a 2:1 advantage before the first break. Early in the second period, Gusakov doubled the visitors’ advantage (3:1). After that, the hosts scored two goals within 50 seconds and caught up with ASC – 3:3. But, the visitors responded in the same way – with two quick goals and regained a two-goal lead (5:3).
The Duisburg-based side maintained the difference until halftime (7:5). In the middle of the third period, captain Radovic gave Hanover some hope with a power-play goal for 6:7. Still, Kuppers made it 8:6 immediately after. In the 29th minute, the man of the match, Denys Gusakov stretched the margin to three with his fourth goal (9:6). Benic reduced the gap, but ASC controlled the game and earned three points.
Spandau was merciless in the match against Neukolln. The final score says all: Neukolln – Spandau 6:36.
White Sharks recorded a convincing win over OSC Potsdam. An excellent defense in the first three periods was a key to the Sharks’ success. After 24 minutes, the Hannover-based team led 6:1. Early in the fourth, the hosts went to 7:1. In the remaining time, OSC reduced the gap to four goals (5:9).
Ludwigsburg beat Esslingen 13:9. At halftime, the sides were tied at 6:6. Ludwigsburg earned a 8:6 advantage in the middle of the third, and from that point on, the hosts were always ahead. Moreover, they extended the margin to four.
