The visitors from Berlin didn’t leave the decision for the finish. Their excellent start set the tone of the match. In the first 11 minutes, Spandau scored six and didn’t concede a single goal. Waspo never recovered from a shocking 0:6 start. Spandau earned a seven-goal advantage before the second half (9:2) and there was no doubt which team would win.
Spandau and Waspo will meet very soon in the semifinals of the German Cup.
ASC Duisburg confirmed 2nd place with a victory over OSC Potsdam, which proved to be a tough opponent. Before the final quarter the sides were tied at 5:5. In the fourth quarter, OSC took a 6:5 lead. ASC responded with two goals, but OSC leveled immediately. Lucas Kuppers decided everything scoring two quick goals in the middle of the period and set the final score – 9:7.
Neukolln Berlin and Esslingen faced off in a duel that answered the question of which team would be relegated. Neukolln needed a point to keep a spot in the first league. Just a week before this encounter, Esslingen earned its first win in the season, by beating Neukolln in the postponed match of Day 7 (12:6). However, Neukolln took revenge. The team from the capital of Germany dictated the pace in the game of the 14th round. It had a 5-goal lead already in the second quarter (7:2) and maintained the difference until 12:7. Esslingen scored the last goal in the match for 8:12. However, it’s a slim consolation since the club was relegated to the “B” Bundes League. Neukolln climbed to 6th place ahead of Potsdam.
Krefeld won 1st place in the “B” league and will replace Esslingen in the highest rank in the next season.
The top five teams qualified for the quarterfinals of the playoffs as well as Krefeld. The teams ranked 6th, and 7th (Neukolln and OSC Potsdam) will play in the relegation playoffs against Duisburger and Bayer Uerdigen, 2nd-placed and 3rd-placed in the B group.
