There have been several derbies in the major national leagues this weekend.
Sabadell recorded an away 10:8 win over Barcelona in Spain.
Brescia beat Telimar 12:10 in the Italian derby played in Sicily. Crvena Zvezda was better than Radnicki in the 4th round of the Serbian League. The match was ended only after a penalty shootout – 15:14.
BVSC edged out Vasas 11:10 in an encounter between two Euro Cup clubs in Budapest. The big match of the week in France was the game Marseille – Strasbourg. Marseille took three points with a 11:8 victory.
Italian League, Day 5
Brescia overcame the crisis of the results and recorded a win in the highlight of Day 5 in Serie A1.
Brescia beat Telimar in Palermo – 12:9. It was an even contest from the beginning until the end. Yes, Brescia indeed had a huge advantage at halftime – 8:4 (thanks to a 4:0 run between the 13th and the 16th minute). But Telimar didn’t give up. The hosts halved the deficit by the middle break (7:9). They came very close to the rival twice in the fourth quarter (8:9 and 9:10). Brescia secured a 12:9 victory only at the finish – with two goals in the last 54 seconds. Alessiani and Balzarini scored three goals each for Brescia. Telimar’s Occhione and Vitale had the same output. Neither of the teams was complete because the Americans (Brescia’s Irving and Telimar’s Hooper) went to the preparations with the national team for the Pan American Games.
Pro Recco and Trieste continued their winning streaks. Recco let Roma Vis Nova score only one goal – 21:1.
Catania fought hard in the Sicilian derby against Ortigia, but the Syracuse-based team took all three points with a narrow 12:11 victory.

Hungarian League, Day 7
BVSC beat Vasas in the first big derby in the Hungarian League this season.
Vasas, the visiting team, was in front for most of the time, but the distance was never bigger than two goals. In the middle of the fourth period, Vasas was two steps ahead – 10:8. But BVSC made a 3:0 series in the remaining time. The hosts leveled at 10:10 with 03:07 minutes left on the clock. Both teams missed a few chances after that and it seemed that the match would end in a draw. But, Erik Csacsovszky scored an action goal from 8 meters in the very last second and BVSC took all three points.
Before this game, water polo lovers in Budapest enjoyed some thrilling matches, including KSI’s 9:8 victory over PVSK in the Komjadi pool with a last-second winner scored by Benedek Szoke from his team’s half of the field. KSI earned its first three points. UVSE narrowly lost to Kaposvar (10:11).
Ferencvaros secured a comfortable 19:8 win over Miskolc, with Denes Varga contributing four goals along with Vendel Vigvari. Vendel’s brother Vince scored six goals to aid OSC Budapest in a 19:13 triumph against Eger.

Spanish League, Day 5
Sabadell kept the momentum gained in a historic win over Novi Beograd in Belgrade on Tuesday. The 2023 Spanish League runner-up earned an away win over Barcelona in the derby of the fifth round 10:8.
Sabadell got off to an excellent start and jumped to a 6:2 lead. Still, the visitors didn’t keep a four-goal advantage for long. Barcelona reduced the gap to one twice (6:7 at the finish of the 3rd and 7:8 in the fourth). Still, there were no thrills at the end, as Sabadell entered the final minute with a safe 10:7 advantage. Blai Mallarach, who moved from Barcelona to Sabadell this summer, was the best scorer in the winning team – three goals. Barcelona’s Marc Valls found the net five times.

French League, Day 6
A derby was played in France,too. Marseille welcomed Strasbourg. The reigning champion earned a three-goal lead in the first half (7:4) and maintained the difference in the second half (11:8). Captain Ugo Crousillat scored four goals for Marseille. Vlado Popadic netted three for Strasbourg.
After this result, only Marseille and Noisy-le-Sec remain unbeaten. Noisy easily defeated Sete.

Serbian League, Day 4
Crvena Zvezda emerged victorious over Radnicki in the derby in Belgrade – 15:14 after a penalty shootout. Zvezda had an early lead of 3:1, but Radnicki managed to go ahead – 8:6 . Zvezda then replied with four unanswered goals to take a 10:8 lead. However, Radnicki’s Dadvani scored an equalizer just 29 seconds before the end, leading to a penalty shootout. In the shootout, only Sulc was unsuccessful, and all the other players hit the net. Dusan Vasic led Crvena Zvezda with five goals. Dadvani scored four for Radnicki, and leftie Lazar Vickovic added three.
Novi Beograd sank Vojvodina – 25:2 with seven goals from Dimitrios Skoumpakis. Novi Beograd’s development team, NBG Vukovi, caused a big surprise by beating Valis 13:11. The Valjevo-based side suffered the first loss in the Championships.

Greek League, Day 5
Vouliagmeni was three goals down in the match against AEK. Still, it came back and avoided a surprise, beating the rival by a goal – 11:10. AEK led 9:6 in the third quarter. Then, Vouliagmeni “woke up”, and scored five goals in a row to gain a 11:9 advantage. AEK reduced the gap to one at the finish. Kourovanis contributed to Vouliagmeni’s victory with four goals.
Apollon beat Panathinaikos, thanks to an excellent defense. Apollon led 4:1, 8:4, 9:6. Panathinaikos cut the deficit to 8:9 at the finish, but Apollon kept all three points.
Olympiacos demolished Patras 19:3, with five goals from Ioannis Fountoulis.
