The Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) determined the schedule of the 2020/21 national championships.
The schedule is the confirmation that thirteen teams will take part in the A1 league. Sport Management withdrew from the highest competition rank a few days ago, and none of the clubs will fill the vacancy.
2020/21 Serie A1 clubs: Pro Recco, Brescia, Ortigia, Savona, Trieste, Telimar, Florentia, Lazio, Posillipo, Quinto, Roma, Salerno, and Metanopoli Milan.
The league starts on October 3. After 26 rounds of the regular season, only the top four teams will continue the competition in the playoffs. The last round of the regular season will be played on May 8. The games of the playoffs are scheduled for May.
The 1st-placed and the 2nd-placed will battle for the title in the final (best-of-five), while the 3rd-placed and 4th-placed in the regular season, will play in the playoffs for the 3rd place (best-of-three).
The teams which finish the league in 12th and 13th places will face each other in the relegation playoffs if the gap between the sides is up to 9 points at the end of the regular season. The loser in the best-of-three series will be relegated to the A2 League. If the difference is 10 or more points, the 13th-placed club will be relegated directly to the A2 League.
