German Championship finally started, but corona case stops Spandau

The German league has finally started this weekend, but a few matches have been postponed.

Spandau 04, the most decorated German club, wasn’t able to play its games at the first tournament, because a player of this team has tested positive for coronavirus just before the competition, and the Federation decided to postpone Spandau’s first three games. New dates will be determined.

The competition system is unusual and adapted to the current conditions. Due to the strict anti-corona measures in Germany, the league started almost six months later than it was planned. So the season will be quite short.

Eight teams will battle for the title. They are split into two groups (A and B). Two tournaments will be played in each group (a total of six rounds). After the second tournament, the top two teams will advance to the group for the title (group E) and will take part in the playoffs.

The others will play for the classification 5th – 12th. They will be joined by the four teams from groups C and D, which haven’t started yet.
