Olympiacos have today confirmed the signing of a promising Greek youngster, Stefania Santa.
Santa, who celebrated her eighteenth birthday two days ago, joins the Greek and Euro League Champions from league rivals, NC Vouliagmeni. The teenager is Olympiacos’ second purchase from Vouliagmeni this season, following the acquisition of another Greek international, Ioanna Chydirioti.
The signing is a really good bit of business for Alexander Ciric and Olympiacos, bringing to the club a really exciting young Greek player who will add to an already incredibly strong squad. Another significant benefit for the Red-Whites is that Santa is a homegrown player, and won’t take up a spot designated for overseas players.
Santa has been busy collecting accolades over the summer, playing several times for her national team: winning bronze at the U19 European Championships in Netanya, silver at the U18 World Championships in Belgrade, and is at least guaranteed a silver medal at the European Championships with the senior national team, as they take on reigning champions Spain in the final in tomorrow.
Olympiacos won a significant quadruple last season; winning the Greek Women’s National Championships, the Women’s Greek Cup, the LEN Women’s Euro League and the LEN Super Cup. The team from Piraeus have won the last nine national championships, with the 2021/2022 season being their 13th title.
