After three competition days, the second phase of the Hungarian Cup has been completed.
The remaining three tickets for the upper group of the 3rd stage were distributed today. There were no big surprises. BVSC, Honved, and Miskolc won the 2nd positions in their respective groups and joined the five teams, which earlier secured their places in the group for places 1th-8th (Szolnok, Eger, Ferencvaros, Vasas, and OSC).
The third stage will be played in Budapest next weekend.

Ferencvaros beat Debrecen with ease and recorded its 6th consecutive win this season.
Honved remained in the 2nd place and took the ticket for the upper group. Honved defeated UVSE by 7 goals (15:8). The difference between the sides wasn’t small after the 32nd minute, but UVSE kept up with the favorites for more than two quarters. In the middle of the second period, the score was 5:5. Early in the third period, UVSE scored its 7th goal (7:8), and after that, Honved broke the rival with three consecutive goals for 11:7. Before the last break, UVSE reduced the gap at 8:11. But, Honved kept UVSE scoreless in the final eight minutes, while it netted four goals (15:8). All in all, an experienced Norbert Hosnyanszky made the difference, since he scored seven goals for the winning team. He did a great job in the first two quarters. Hosnyanszky scored six of Honved’s seven goals in the first 16 minutes.

OSC showed no mercy to the bottom-placed Tatabanya.
The last match of this group also was decided much before the final buzzer. BVSC dominated the game against PVSK. BVSC had a 9:1 advantage before the team from Pecs scored its second goal. That happened in the 20th minute. Still, BVSC cruised to a win that secured them the 2nd place.

Vasas stormed past Szeged (19:7) and Kaposvar (17:7). Serbia’s defender Sava Randjelovic was the best scorer of the day. He scored four goals in each of the two Vasas’s wins.
Other games in this group were more interesting.
In the morning session, Kaposvari surprised Miskolc, which was the semifinalist of the 2019/20 Hungarian Cup. Kaposvari celebrated a 10:8 win.
But, Miskolc managed to defeat Szeged in the last game of the tournament and jumped into the 2nd place. Miskolc earned an early 6:1 lead and had an 8:2 advantage deep in the second period. That excellent opening by Miskolc determined the rest of the contest. Szeged was climbing back from time to time, but Miskolc kept the advantage. In the second half, the distance between the sides was never smaller than three goals.

The 1st-placed teams from the 2nd stage will face the 2nd-placed sides. The teams which were in the same group of the Stage 2 will not meet, but they will carry the score of their encounter in the 2nd stage.
Group II (9th – 16th place): Blue 3, Blue 4, White 3, White 4, Red 3, Red 4, Green 3, Green 4
The 3rd-placed teams from the 2nd stage will face the 4th-placed sides. The teams which were in the same group of the Stage 2 will not meet, but they will bring the score of their encounter in the 2nd stage.
Fourth stage (August 12 – 13)
The Cup will be finished in Budapest in the middle of August. The fourth stage is a knock-out round.
