Olympiacos men copy ladies and don’t let AEK score goal

November 7, 2022

The female team of Olympiacos kept a clean sheet against AEK in the 4th round of the national championships (16:0).

Olympiacos’ men did the same a week later against the same opponent. Olympiacos ran over AEK (25:0) on Day 6 of the Greek Men’s League.

There were a few interesting games in the 6th round. A duel between Ydraikos and Chios stood out from the others. Ydraikos earned a win with a late goal.

Apollon extended its winning streak in Group B.

Two games have been postponed, because Vouliagmeni and Panionios played in the Champions League Qualifications.

2022/23 Greek Men’s League, Day 6

Chios: Halajian 4, Karakasis 3, Mimidis 1, Pazaitis 1, Hadjistefanou 1, Vekkos 1, Gavalas 1.

Postponed: Panionios – Panathinaikos

It was clear that the young team of AEK couldn’t be an equal opponent to Olympiacos, which secured a win much before the end. Still, the champion approached the game seriously because it has been preparing for a big start in the Champions League (the match against Pro Recco on November 15). The hosts were focused on defense until the end and didn’t let AEK score a single goal. Fountoulis and Vamos netted five goals each, while Filipovic, Buslje, and Genidounias missed the game.

Olympiacos has already scored more than 100 goals in the season. The champion’s goal difference is 107:16 after six rounds.

Ethnikos collected three points against Nireas Chalandriou. In the beginning, it seemed that the newcomer could surprise. Only a goal separated the rivals at the first break (3:4). Still, Ethnikos proved who the favorite was with a 7:0 second period. The visitors slowed after the middle break and Nireas Chalandriou reduced the gap to five goals.

Ydraikos edged out Chios 13:12. It was a tense game, the teams were in a neck-and-neck race and everything was open until the very end. Just 12 seconds before the final buzzer, Fotis Blanis, scored a winner for Ydraikos. Japanese Suzuki and Takata (three goals each) were the leaders of the winning team.

1.Olympiacos 6 – 18
2. Panionios 5 – 12
3. Panathinaikos 5 – 10
4. Ethnikos 6 – 9
5. Ydriakos 6 – 9
6. AEK 6 – 6
7. Nireas Chalandriou 6 – 3
8. Chios 6 – 1

Group B

Apollon Smyrnis – Ilysiakos 20:6 (4:1, 5:3, 6:1, 5:1)
Apollon Smyrnis: Solanakis 7, Bogdanovic 3, Diplaros 2, Diplaros 2, Braimis 2, Myrilos 2, Vickovic 1, Goniotakis 1, Gardikas 1, Tourkomenis 1.
Ilysiakos: Arai 3, Kranias 1, Tsistrakis 1, Araki 1.

Palaio Faliro – PAOK 7:9 (0:2, 3:3, 2:3, 2:1)
Palaio Faliro: Kocheilas 3, Tot 2, Kourliaftis 1, Radulovic 1.
PAOK: Kechalaris 3, Milardovic 2, Charalambopoulos 2, Koopman 1.

Chania – Glyfada 6:10 (0:3, 2:1, 2:3, 2:3)
Chania: Agiorgousis 2, Apostolakis 1, Charitakis 1, Da Silva 1, Nikolaidis 1.
ANO Glyfada: Agortsas 3, Giannopoulos 2, Papapostolou, Pouros 2, Tsatalios 1, Hatzikyriakakis 1, Chalivopoulos 1.

Postponed: Peristeri – Vouliagmeni

Apollon kept its perfect record, with an easy win over the bottom-placed Ilysiakos. Emmanouil Solanakis was the man of the match, as he found the net seven times. Apollon is close to its 100th goal in the season, but it doesn’t have such an impressive goal difference as Olympiacos – 90:47

The visiting teams bagged the points in the other two matches in the group. PAOK defeated Palaio Faliro 9:7. The Thessaloniki-based side opened the game with two goals, and it led 2:0 at the first break, which was crucial for their win. Palaio Faliro didn’t manage to catch up with PAOK.

Glyfada didn’t have a too demanding task in the match with winless Chania. The first quarter, in which Glyfada scored three and didn’t concede a goal set the tone of the game. Chania cut the deficit to (2:4), but Glyfada regained and stretched the margin in the second half.

1.Apollon 6 – 18
2. Vouliagmeni 4 – 12
3. Peristeri 5 – 9
4. PAOK 5 – 9
5. Glyfada 6 – 9
6. Palaio Faliro 6 – 6
7. Chania 5 – 0
8. Ilysiakos 5 – 0
