UPDATED: Since publication, Alvaro Granados has contacted Total Waterpolo, denying the rumours to be true.
One of the summer's most dramatic transfer stories may have taken an unexpected twist.
Alvaro Granados, who initially signed with Pro Recco, now seems set to join Hungarian and European champions Ferencvaros, amid growing financial issues at the Italian club. It is rumoured that Granados and Ferencvaros are close to completing the transfer, but neither the player nor either club has confirmed the move.
Sources close to Ferencvaros informed Total Waterpolo that Granados was approached earlier in the summer about joining FTC. However, the 25-year-old Spaniard chose Recco at that time. Now, amid the turmoil in Genoa, the world’s top goal-scorer appears to have had a change of heart.
Additionally, we reported yesterday that Konstantinos Kakaris might be leaving Pro Recco to return to Jug Adriatic Osiguranje, with several other players also expected to depart.
