An interesting, but seemingly false, transfer rumour is developing in Italy.
According to the Journalist Raffaele Di Noia, Giacomo Cannella is set to be the final key addition to Savona's exciting 2024/25 lineup.
The 27-year-old Italian international, currently one of the best players at Pro Recco, would be a significant signing for this season's Italian Championship runners-up.
However, Total Waterpolo has been told by official sources at Pro Recco that the rumour is "fake news".Â
Cannella's career began with Lazio's youth program, and he made his first-team debut at only 16. In 2019, Cannella moved to AN Brescia, where he won the Italian championship in 2021. Later that year, he transferred to Pro Recco, where he has won the last four national championships and two Champions League titles.
He debuted for the Settebello in 2017, winning two World Championship silver medals (2022 & 2024) and bronze at the European Championships earlier this year.
If Giacomo Cannella joins Savona, along with left-hander Luca Damonte (FTC-Telekom) and other rumored signings Davide Occhione and Team USA's Quinn Woodhead (both from Telimar Palermo), Rari would no doubt be one of the most promising teams for the upcoming A1 championship and Champions League qualifiers.
