Sandro Sukno - Croatia's Water Polo Superstar
A true killer, always ready to score in spectacular fashion, who performed best when the pressure was on - Sandro Sukno. Croatia's once-in-a-generation talent has achieved everything an athlete could dream of, before a cruel medical heart condition forced him to retire with only 29 years at the pinnacle of his athletic performance and career.
In what is now know as the final stage of his professional career, he led Croatia's national team as captain to the 2017 world championship title against Hungary in the heart of Budapest. His outstanding performance earned him history's first Total Player Award. He previously achieved the Olympic Gold Medal at the London Games in 2012, European Gold in 2010 as well as many silver and bronze placements among the major international competitions.
After undergoing heart surgery in 2018 as a last hope for continuing his career, he eventually made the decision and retired from actively playing. He did not turn his back on water polo though and is now head coach of Primorac Kotor as well as assistant coach for the Croatian National Team.
