CE Mediterrani have made a huge statement by announcing a deal to sign Gabi Palm, the Australian national team’s goalkeeper.
The Twenty-four year old joins Marian Diaz and her exciting squad from the current Australian champions, Queensland Thunder. The Stinger had a short stint at Ekipe Orizzonte back in 2017.
Palm made her debut for the Aussie Stingers five years ago, winning silver and bronze medals at the Intercontinental Cup during that time. Australia’s number one goalkeeper was also a member of the team that finished fifth at the Tokyo Olympics, and was an important element in Paul Oberman’s team’s sixth-place finish at the World Championships in Budapest. Palm was particularly impressive in the 5th-8th semi-final against Greece, saving two penalties in a sudden death shoot-out.
Mediterrani have invested heavily in strengthening their squad this summer ahead of their first Division de Honor fixture against CN Rubi next month. A pair of Canadians, Verica Bakoc and Axelle Crevier, have already signed with Medi, while the club has also brought in some young Spanish talent in the form of Daniela Moreno and Irene Costa.
Mediterrani are expected to push Sabadell and Mataro for the title in this season’s Division de Honor, which begins on the 15th October.
