Total Player 2021 by David Martin

December 2, 2021

David Martín had a successful playing career, and after retirement, he stayed in water polo as a coach. Firstly, he coached Barceloneta.

He took over the Spanish national team in 2017. In the last few years, the Spanish national team returned to the way of success. Between 2018 and 2020, Spain won three silver medals (two at the Europeans and one at the World Championships). Under Martin’s guidance, Spain reached the Olympic semifinals for the first time in the 21st century and finished 4th in Tokyo.

David Martín’s Top 5 of 2021

3. Viktor Nagy (HUN)

Hungarian National Player/Club: Szolnok/Position: Goalkeeper

All my respects to one of the best goalkeepers in the world in recent years. In his last championship as a player, he showed all his worth winning the bronze medal for Hungary at the Tokyo Games and helping Szolnok win the league and the LEN Euro Cup.

4. Filip Filipovic (SRB)

Serbian National Player/Clubs: Szolnok, Olympiacos/ Position: Right Driver

Like Nagy, he showed his leadership with Serbia in Tokyo 2020 in his last competition with his national team. He has also been a key player to Szolnok’s winning the trophies in the Hungarian League and the LEN Euro Cup this year.

5. Ben Hallock (USA)

USA National Player/Club: Pro Recco/Position: Centre-forward

Hallock is one of the strongest centers of the season. He won the Champions League with Recco and was one of the best centers in Tokyo 2020. He showed a great level of play throughout the season.
