Dejan Savic, has been a regular member of the Total Player Expert Jury since our first award. But, Serbia’s head coach perhaps surprised many with his votes between 2017 and 2019. To remind, since 2017, Savic led Serbia to many medals. However, Serbian players didn’t receive a single vote from their coach in the voting for the previous three Total Player Awards. After the new Olympic gold medal, five Serbian players received Savic’s votes.
Savic doesn’t have an extensive explanation of his votes. The comments for all five picks are the same:
“I think that any comment isn’t necessary.”
This is a big difference compared to the previous Savic’s choices. Therefore, Total Waterpolo’s comment and question are inevitable: “From 2017 to 2019, you didn’t give a single vote to the players who you have been coaching. The second Olympic title, obviously, affected the big turn, isn’t it?”
Savic answered in his style:
“They finally grew up.”
