Total Player 2021 by Theodoros Vlachos

In 2021, Theodoros Vlachos became one of a few head coaches who have an Olympic medal and the Champions League in their treasuries.

Vlachos has been working as a coach for more than 20 years and has played an important role in big progress of Greek water polo.

Vlachos has coached Olympiacos since 2011 and won the 2018 Champions League guiding the best Greek club. In 2014, he took over Greece. In the last seven years, the Greeks have won six medals. This year is the most successful in the history of the male Greek water polo. Greece won bronze in the World League and, finally, reached the Olympic podium for the first time, winning silver in Tokyo.

After this summer’s great success, Vlachos continued his mission on two benches, as a head coach both of Olympiacos and Greece.

1. Dusan Mandic (SRB)

Serbian National Player I Club: Pro Recco, Novi Beograd I Position: Right Driver

This season was Mandic’s best year ever. He was unstoppable with Pro Recco and Serbia, winning the Champions League and the Olympic gold.

2. Filip Filipovic (SRB)

Serbian National Player I Clubs: Szolnok, Olympiacos I Position: Right Driver

Filipović was the MVP of the Tokyo Games and the player who made the difference in the team of Szolnok in winning trophies in the LEN Euro Cup and the Hungarian League

3. Konstantinos Gendiounias (GRE)

Greek National Player I Club: Olympiacos I Position: Driver

4. Emmanouil Zerdevas (GRE)

Greek National Player I Club: Olympiacos I Position: Goalkeeper

Gendiounias and Zerdevas were very important players for the national team in winning the historic silver medal at the Olympic Games. Besides, both gave significant contribution to Olympiacos' results and helped the club to retain trophies in Greece.

5. Francesco Di Fulvio (ITA)

Italian National Player I Club: Pro Recco I Position: Left Driver

He was the key player for Recco’s triumph in the Champions League and the best Italian player at the Tokyo Olympics.
