Total Player 2022 by Tim Hamill

November 25, 2022

Tim Hamill has been Australia’s head coach since October 2021. He replaced Elvis Fatovic, who led Australia between 2013 and 2021.

Hamill played for the Australian national team early in the 21st century. He worked alongside Fatovic from 2013 in numerous roles with the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS). He was Fatovic’s assistant at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

He has extensive coaching experience, having served as the NSWIS Head Coach of the Men’s
program since 2017 as well as coaching at club, state, and national level..

Tim Hamill’s Top 5 of 2022

Perrone540x540

1. Felipe Perrone (ESP)

Spanish National Team Player. Club: Barceloneta. Position: Driver

It seems the bigger the occasion the better he plays. This was no more obvious than his performance in the gold medal game at the World Championships in Budapest. A great leader and player.
Di Fulvio540x540

2. Francesco Di Fulvio (ITA)

Italian National Team Player. Club: Pro Recco. Position: Driver

He continues to consistently put together great seasons and performances year after year. His attacking ability in all facets continues to make him one of the most difficult opponents to manage.
Hallock540x540

3. Ben Hallock (USA)

Team USA National Team Player. Club: Pro Recco. Position: Centre-forward.

Hallock had a great season for Pro Recco and led the USA team to some good results. Extremely strong and proving more difficult to defend each competition. Whilst only young, quickly developing into one of the best centre forwards in the world.
Mandic540x540

4. Dusan Mandic (SRB)

Serbian National Team Player. Club: Novi Beograd. Position: Wing.

Whilst Serbia did not achieve the results we have become used to, he continues to be so difficult to defend and so difficult to minimise his impact on the game. His shooting ability in both driving, set and extra attack still makes him such a high-quality and unique player.
Younger540x540

5. Aaron Younger (AUS)

Australian National Team Player. Club: Pro Recco. Position: All-round

Whilst he did not play in the World Championships or World League in 2022, and acknowledging my bias, his performances for Pro Recco throughout the season, particularly at the Final 8, demonstrated he is still one of the best players in the World. A unique ability to play various positions in the pool.
