Total Player 2023 by Attila Biro

November 18, 2023

After an illustrious eight-year tenure with the Hungarian national team, Attila Biro bid farewell to his role this summer.

Throughout his leadership, Biro guided Hungary to remarkable achievements, notably securing the gold medal at the 2016 European Championships and claiming bronze at both the 2020 European Championships in Budapest and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The year 2022 brought further success as Biro steered the team to second-place finishes at both the World Championships and the World League Super Finals, earning two coveted silver medals.

Biro’s connection with water polo extends beyond coaching, as he had a distinguished playing career with professional stints in Hungary, Greece, and Italy, gaining valuable experience across various European leagues. Following his playing days, Biro seamlessly transitioned into coaching, starting with two of Budapest’s premier men’s teams, Ferencváros and OSC. His coaching journey took a unique turn into the women’s game, where he led the New Zealand national team before reaching the pinnacle of his career as the head coach of the Hungarian women’s team.
