The final tournament of the European qualifications for the Men’s World League Super Final will be held in Debrecen, Hungary, in January (8 – 10).
As we reported in October, FINA decided to compress the calendar and the remaining three days “pack” in one tournament.
The dates were determined earlier, while the news is that Debrecen will be the host.
The competition formula isn’t changed. On Day 1, the quarterfinals will be played. One quarterfinal game has been already held before the suspension of the competition caused by the pandemic – Spain defeated Serbia 13:11. Still, these two teams will meet on Day 1 of the tournament in Debrecen. But, that encounter will be a friendly match. A day later, Spain will play in the semifinals for places 1st-4th, Serbia in the consolation semifinals (5th- 8th).
The top three teams will qualify for the World League Super Final in Tbilisi (Georgia).
Each team can register a 15-player roster for the tournament. But, of course, only 13 can play in a match.
