The head coach of the male team of the Netherlands had a respectable playing career in the Dutch team. Van der Meer competed at the Olympic Games three times (9th place in Barcelona 1992, 10th in Atlanta 1996 and 11th in Sydney 2000).
He was one of the most important players of the national team. Recently he has become a head coach of the senior team.
