The idea of Beach Water Polo has been out there for years and FINAlly, we have a chance to witness this variation of water polo as an exhibition event during the upcoming World Water Polo Championships in Gwangju.
There is very little information available about this event but here are some interesting facts you need to know about Beach Water Polo.
#1: The BEACH Water polo Tournament will be held in a POOL 🤯🤯🤯
#2: The Tournament is played from the 13th to the 19th of July.
#3: Four teams will compete in the female and male category. FINA’s official schedule states that the following teams will participate:
Women: USA, Russia, Spain, China
Men: France, China, Canada, Egypt
Some of our sources however tell us that these are the teams which will participate:
Women: USA, Spain, China, Australia
Men: France, China, Canada, Argentina
We will know for sure a few minutes before the first match.😉
#4: The matches are played in two 10 minutes period with 5 minute rest in between.
#5: The field of play is 15m x 10m.
#6: Each team shall consist of four players, one of whom shall be the goalkeeper and not more than three reserves who may be used as substitutes.
#7: The ball size is the same as for regular water polo.
#8: The free throw line is at 5 meters, not on 6m as it is now according to the new water polo rules.
