The Final Four tournaments of the Greek Cup, both for men and women, will be held in Patras on February 3 and 4.
The draw for the semifinals was held today.
Men
The best Greek male clubs will face off already in the semifinals. Olympiacos, the reigning champion, and Vouliagmeni will face off in the second semifinal match. In the other game, Panathinaikos will play against Ethnikos.
Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni finished atop their respective groups in the first phase of the Greek Championships. The clubs, coached by the Serbian water polo legends (Igor Milanovic – Olympiacos and Vladimir Vujasinovic – Vouliagmeni), haven’t met this season yet. Still, the semifinal of the Cup won’t be their first encounter this season. On Tuesday (January 24), Olympiacos will host Vouliagmeni in the Champions League.
Olympiacos is the record-holder with 23 trophies in the national Cup. In the 21st century, the Red Whites won 19 trophies. They didn’t triumph only three times. Ethnikos was the best in 2005, and Vouliagmeni won the Greek Cup in 2012 and 2017.
The Greek Cup was inaugurated in 1953, but it wasn’t held between 1958 and 1983 and in the season 1993/94. Since 1953, Ethnikos has won 12 and Vouliagmeni four trophies. Panathinaikos has played in the final just once and lost to Olympiacos.
