World champion Italy will have only 12 players in the team in tomorrow’s match against France in the second round of the male tournament. Which player will miss this match? We don’t know….
Today, the European federation of the aquatic sports (LEN) announced that Francesco di Fulvio, the MVP of the 2019 World Championships, would miss the match due to the suspension.
Today at 12.19 CET we received LEN’s announcement:
“One-match ban for Francesco di Fulvio (ITA)
After reviewing an incident occurred in the game between Italy and Greece (men’s tournament, Group D, Day 1), the LEN TWPC handed a one-match ban to Italy’s Francesco di Fulvio for an act of brutality. Based on the rules coming in force in 2019, video reviews can be used in case of alleged misconducts and suspensions can be enforced based on video evidence.
Francesco di Fulvio shall serve this ban in the next game of Italy, against France on 16 January”.
Nine minutes ( after we published this on Total Waterpolo we received LEN’s correction:
“One-match ban for Stefano Luongo (ITA)

Our readers informed us that we published the wrong information – and this can hurt our image as it’s our job to deliver accurate information. The readers don’t care if LEN made a mistake – they see our title and assume we did. This can have a negative effect on our business. Mistakes can happen to anyone but in PR private companies you would lose your job for doing such a sloppy job.
LEN didn’t give detailed information about the mentioned incident and didn’t attach the video review of that situation.
Di Fulvio and Luongo weren’t excluded during the game.
