The Italian water polo club Savona issued a statement regarding the incident that happened during the first match of the LEN Euro Cup final, Savona – Vasas.
We publish the full announcement that we received:
“Following news released on some sites and social profiles, concerning the attack on two fans of the Vasas Budapest team, we are specifying the following.
Rari Nantes Savona has a mirrored history of fairness and sporting loyalty, it has always been foreign to and condemns all forms of verbal and physical violence, especially towards women, also having more than 100 athletes in the Synchronized Swimming sector within it.
Given the above:
We were not aware of the fact in question because no official report from the forces of order present abundantly in the pool and its surroundings mentions it and also no complaints have been made to them by the victims of the attack.
After having become aware of it, we are working in every way and in harmony with the police forces, to identify the culprits, who have nothing to do with Rari Nantes Savona and, possibly, to return to the legitimate owners what was uncivilized.
We hope that this episode will not harm in any way the excellent relations existing between our clubs and that the return match in Budapest will be able to be played in an atmosphere of sportsmanship and friendship as it was in Savona, excluding the regrettable event your supporters.
Best regards
Rari Nantes Savona”
