VLV.hu’s Total 5 of 2017
1st – DΓ©nes Varga
Hungary’s Team Captain | Club: 2016/17Β Szolnoki VΓzilabda SC, 2017 Ferencvaros | Position: Driver
“His play got a new dimension when he became the leader of the renewed Hungarian national team and led it to world championship finals. With his club, Szolnok, he won everything in the 2016-17 season where his team appeared (Hungarian Championship, Hungarian Cup, Hungarian Super Cup, Champions League) and, of course, he played a leading role in the victories. He was creative and successful in scoring goals. His brilliant individual solutions are the most effective propaganda of water polo worldwide these days.”
2nd – Sandro Sukno
Croatia Team Captain | Club: Pro Recco | Position: Driver
“With his mature play he had a major role in the 2017 march of the Croatian national team to win the World Championship in Budapest and, not accidentally, he became the best player of the World Championship final. Also, he was the leading player of his club, Pro Recco. He cannot play these days due to an illness. We wish him to get better soon!”
3rd – Andrija PrlainoviΔ
Serbian National Player | Club: Szolnoki VΓzilabda SC | Position: Driver
“It was not his fault that the Serbs did not reach the Budapest World Championship finals, as he shot 6 (!!) goals in the semi-final loss against the Croatian team. He performed evenly throughout the year. He played a major role in his club team winning everything that could be won in the 2016-2017 season with Szolnok.”
4th – MΓ‘rton VΓ‘mos
Hungary National Player | Club: 2016/17Β Szolnoki VΓzilabda SC, 2017 Ferencvaros | Position: Driver
“He took up the role of his great lefty predecessors (Tibor Benedek, Gergely Kiss, Norbert Madaras) in the Hungarian national team. His goals from the free throw line have become legendary by now. With excelling himself also in defense, his playing skills have become more complex. As MVP of the World Championship, he also closed the club season with the full set of gold medals, just as DΓ©nes Varga and Andrija PrlainoviΔ.”
5th –Β Andro BuΕ‘lje
Croatian National Player | Club: Olympiakos| Position: Center Back
“With his performance at the Budapest World Championships he proved that he isΒ currently the worldβs best defensive player.”
