Waspo 98 Hannover clinched its fourth consecutive German Super Cup.
The Super Cup for the season 2019/20, was postponed twice due to the problems with the coronavirus, and, finally, it was held in Hannover. The hosts defeated Spandau 04 (8:6) to retain the trophy.
It was the second encounter between the two best German clubs this season. Last weekend, Spandau defeated Hannover (8:7) in the league match.

Hannover, the reigning German champion, took an early 1:0 lead in the first minute, and that was the only goal in the first quarter. At halftime of a tight battle, the sides were tied (3:3), while Spandau, which won the 2020 German Cup, went in front twice in the third period (4:3 and 5:4), but Hannover scored two goals in the last two minutes of the third quarter and had a 6:5 advantage before the final eight minutes. Hannover captain Julian Real and Ante Corusic increased the hosts’ advantage to 8:5. That 4:0 series proved vital for Hannover’s win. Dmitri Kholod scored a consolation goal for Spandau, from a penalty shot with 12 seconds to go.
Hannover won a total of six Super Cups, but Spandau remains a record-holder with 15 trophies in this competition. Spandau and Hannover are the only two clubs on the all-winners list.
