Waspo Hannover finished the regular season of the German Championships with a perfect 12 – 0 record.
The regular season ended with the “classic of German water polo.” Waspo welcomed Spandau 04. The visitors needed a 5-goal win to move to first place (Waspo beat Spandau 10:6 in Berlin in the first half of the season). Still, they weren’t close to a desirable result.
Waspo recorded a 13:7 victory, delivering an excellent performance in the second half. The first two quarters were closely contested, with Hannover starting good by scoring the first two goals. However, Spandau managed to take the lead, going ahead 5:4 by the 14th minute. Waspo then responded with a streak of four consecutive goals over the next seven minutes, establishing an 8:5 lead. Spandau narrowed the gap to 6:8, but the visitors could not get any closer. Hannover ruled the field in the fourth period. The hosts’ power engines were Nikola Milradovic (4 goals), Denis Strelezkij, and Zoran Bozic (three each). Ivan Vukojevic scored five goals for Spandau 04.
The 3rd-placed Duisburg showed no mercy to OSC Potsdam (22:8).
Neukolln edged out winless Duisburger by 11:10. However, this win didn’t help Neukolln to overtake the fifth-placed White Sharks; both teams ended up with nine points. They are tied in head-to-head games, but White Sharks have a better goal difference (-48 compared to Neukolln’s -122).
In March, the German clubs will play the national cup games.
